Beware of the “Shady’s” …
I’ve had a few horrible bosses who I let weaken my backbone with their poor leadership and complete inability manage. It taught me that not everyone can be a good leader and that there are a lot of erroneously appointed leaders in this world who are too caught up in title to actually understand the impact that they have on others.
Ironically, these nasty people are now my best motivators where our Scentsy and Velata businesses are concerned. Too many times in previous jobs, I was witness to poor service, unethical decisions, and unnecessary criticisms from people who were supposed to be reveared and “top of their game”. It disgusted me to think this behaviour is just business and I vowed to never lead that way.
Now, even though we work for ourselves and love it, we still come across unethical, underhanded, mis-directed people. The great thing is that I’ve learned that their unethical business practices are a CHOICE. Successful businesses do not have to be run this way. These leaders (if you can call them that) who choose to walk on the backs of others to get to the top rather than earn their place, have chosen to model their businesses on ruthlessness and will ultimately fail.
My opinion is simple. Reacting to desperation by cheating others is not a business plan. You may get to the top the ruthless way but you won’t stay there. As a good leader my actions are supposed to be duplicated. If I am unethical, my team will be unethical and my business will be unsuccessful. I don’t know about you but I didn’t come here to be unsuccessful. Business doesn’t have to be shady and ugly – our genuine and real success is proof of that.
